Caution for Unlocking iPhone 3g / 3gs with 6.15 Baseband

If you are reading my guide on unlocking your iPhone 3g / 3gs with 4.2.1 Firmware, Note that it will upgrade your iPhone’s Baseband to 6.15

Now what does this mean?

1. There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. When you take it to an Apple store, they can see that your baseband is 6.15 and they will know that your phone was jailbroken and unlocked, which will void your warranty.

2. Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).

In english, this means forget about your warranty, until apple releases a baseband higher than 6.15 which won’t be anytime soon. Also, don’t plan on resetting your iPhone anytime soon, unless you know what you are doing.

But hey if you gotta unlock your iPhone I guess you have no choice.
